Yesterday I stayed home with a cold, drank four pots of tea, ate hot food, and read "Empire of Ivory".

Apple porridge

Dead easy, but very tasty. Halve a small apple. Eat one half, cut the rest into small pieces. Put in pot together with oats. Pour on only so much hot water that everything gets damp. Leave it for 15 minutes or so. Then pour in a cup of milk, set on stove on high, let it boil once (remember to stir), turn off heat and let it cool to eating temperature. Eat with honey, or brown sugar and cinnamon.

Vaguely Asian winter veggies

I did mention that I love Brussel's sprouts? Took one double handful of them cleaned them. (Wash, peel off easily peeled off outer leaves with your fingers, shorten the trunk and cut a cross into the leftover trunk.) Diced a piece of ginger (recipe said to use a chili pepper, but I did not have one), a small onion, a large carrot, and a clove of garlic reasonably fine.

Heated a tablespoon of vegetable oil in a pot on high, then threw in the veggies. Stirred occasionally, after two minutes set heat to medium high. Heated water in the meantime, mixed one teaspoon of instant veggie broth with 1/4 litre of water and half tablespoon of a semi-hot Sambal. After five minutes, poured the broth into the pot, creating a large cloud of fog. Scrapped off the brown from the bottom of the pot, set heat to medium low and let it simmer, stirring occasionally, for 20 Minutes.

Five minutes before finishing, boiled a litre of water and poured it over a double handful of Chow Mien noodles and a quarter tablespoon of salt. Four minutes later, poured the noodles into a sieve, and then in the pot with the vegetables. Then turned off the heat and added one tablespoon of soy sauce, half a tablespoon of apple vinegar (recipe said white vinegar or rice vinegar, whatever), half a teaspoon of sugar and a little salt and black pepper.

I should really update the recipe section of my webpage with all the cooking I'm doing currently, but it seems that I lost my password. Again. Stupid.
